Su Gologone

Phreatic  |  Sardinia, Italy  |  2025 and ongoing

Su Gologone is the largest karst spring in Sardinia and one of the region's most ecologically significant freshwater sources, with a recorded maximum discharge of 10,000 litres per second. Diving access is tightly regulated, and the cave has been explored to a depth of 135 metres (443 feet), with limited documentation beyond. I joined Phreatic — an Italian non-profit dedicated to citizen science and groundwater research — in 2025 to document their ongoing programme of biospeleological sampling, hydrology, and cave survey at Su Gologone. The next sessions are planned for July 2026.
